Staff at a Virginia liquor store got a shock Saturday when they came to work to find a raccoon ransacking the store, drinking through the spirits section.
The “masked robber” was found passed out in the bathroom between the toilet and the waste bin, while he helped himself to the bottles on the bottom shelf.
Animal Control Officer Samantha Martin transported the “suspect” to the Hanover County Shelter and Shelter for questioning, but not before he had a chance to sober up.
After a few hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (except maybe a hangover), the animal was safely released back into the wild.
The Ashland ABC store was closed for Thanksgiving when it suffered a “Black Friday burglary.”
When staff arrived on Saturday, they found broken bottles and liquor, including his apparently favorite drink, whiskey, on the floor.
Constable Martin said the animal fell through one of the ceiling tiles before “blowing up, drinking it all up”.
There is only one blurry CCTV image of the drunken burglary, so it is unknown how much alcohol the thirsty creature drank before he passed out in the bathroom.
In a social media post, the store thanked the Hanover County Animal Shelter and Shelter for their professionalism and giving the visitor a “sober ride home.”
Officer Martin said it was “just another day in the life of an animal control officer.”
